Tony Carroll RIP

Everyone at Clonmel Town FC are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved President, Tony Carroll.

An irreplaceable piece of our football club has been  chipped away and the wider football community has lost more than it can afford to lose.
Tony was was a gentleman who emanated presence, substance, character and kindness.

We in Clonmel Town Football Club think of ourselves as a family and all of us feel that we have lost one of our most beloved family members. Our club is in existence for over 60 years. We have been very fortunate to have enjoyed many great days both on and off the field. None of these days would have been possible were it not for the huge contribution that Tony made to the history of the club. Throughout all those years he maintained an unshakable allegiance to Clonmel Town FC
The fantastic facilities that many teams enjoy today in the Dr. Pat O’Callaghan Sports Complex would not be possible if it wasn’t for people like Tony Carroll.
He was rightly proud of the part that Clonmel Town has made not only in the football landscape of Clonmel, a club that have and will always be wonderful ambassadors for our Town, but also the part the club has played in improving the welfare of many schoolchildren.

Tony was the embodiment of that older, better code where you tried to make the lives of your neighbour and your community better. He had a proper understanding of what a sense of community actually meant. Tony’s only concern was for the welfare of his family, friends and neighbours, the club he loved, the players, his fellow members.
On matchday, be it in the Showgrounds, Dr Pat O’Callaghan Complex or on our many trips away from home, with his pipe in hand, his unique and distinctive roar of support for the team could be heard above all others.
He was a respected and listened to voice in our club, a voice whose whisper was worth more than the shouts of others.
However Tony’s first love was his beloved wife Eleanor, son Barry and daughter Ann.
He was very proud that his grandson and granddaughter Peter and Eabha both played with our club.

His passing will dig deepest into the heart of his wonderful family. They will find some comfort and solace with the knowledge that Tony was loved and respected in equal measure by everyone who knew him.

Everyone in Clonmel Town Football club offers their most heartfelt condolences to Tony’s wife Eleanor, children Barry and Ann. son in law Mark, daughter in law Niamh, his adored grandchildren Peter, Eabha, Aoibheann & Sadhbh, his brothers Monty & Billy, his brother in law Ebby Burke and his extended family.

Tony Carroll, family man, football man, a special man.
Rest in Peace.
